Blitz Adelaide was elite with a record attendance of over 3,000 witnessing the biggest event yet - and eclipsing the 2,500 that attended Perth last week.
There was an outstanding field that represented what Blitz Golf is all about - with top celebs, influencers and pros going head-to-head. Travis Head and Glenn Maxwell, the AFL stars such as Jordan Dawson and Zak Butters, everyone’s favourite golf influencer Ron Chopper and top tour pros such as Wade Ormsby, Jack Thompson and Adam Bland.
The crowd around the 1st tee at the start of play was representative of scenes from a major with the gallery 5 deep and extending the length of the tee block as Travis, Wade, Chopper and Jordan Dawson prepared to get underway.
ROUND 1
Round 1 presented challenging conditions. Despite accessible pins, there was a combination of wind and firm greens that ensured scoring would be tough. Jason Norris and Zach Murray mastered the conditions best (both previous Blitz winners) with -1 through their 6 hole opening Blitz whilst at the cut line two of the celebs Glenn Maxwell and Callum Ferguson advanced via a NTP shootout at +3.
The defending champion Peter Cooke now a favourite at Kooyonga also advanced whilst Ron Chopper made the second round for the first time with an impressive +1 despite playing in front of the biggest crowd he has seen.
ROUND 2
The 3 hole Round 2 blitz saw the scores reset as the players tackled the iconic loop of holes 14 (signature par 3), 17 and 18. The crowd was buzzing and all 3 groups had massive galleries. Every player of the 12 who advanced from Round 1 was in contention to make the Final until the very last hole with a few unlucky lies/bounces resulting in some players being eliminated.
Ron Chopper, Peter Cooke and Jack Thompson all made excellent birdies on the tough 17th hole. Ron would ultimately top the Round 2 leaderboard at -1 whilst Wade Ormsby, Jack Thompson and Peter Cooke advanced to the final via a NTP playoff. Max McCardle was excellent all day but just missed out on the final.
THE FINAL
The Final had all the drama of a major event. In the 1 -hole final, all the players had good approach shots under pressure to the now fully enclosed 18th. Ron was up first and left it short before Wade and Peter just missed birdie chances. This set the stage for Jack Thompson to putt for the win! Jack just missed and when Ron pulled his par putt it was farewell to the Chopper.
Jack, Wade and Peter all went back to the 18th for one more hole. In the repeated hole, Jack and Peter had birdie putts that closely missed before the stage was set for Wade. Wade Ormsby rolled his putt down the hill, the ball looked like it would stop right next to the hole before it dropped in slowly to the applause of the crowd.
It was Wade’s first Blitz Golf win in 4 attempts and a first win at home. A superb end to an incredible event and there is certainly a lot of excitement for 2027 already.
WHAT’S NEXT
The series now moves to Victoria for two events - with Phillip Island (Red Rocks Golf Course) on Saturday January 17 and then Yarrawonga (Black Bull Resort) on Sunday January 25.
