COMMS PLAN

  1. Your job is to provide the MC with all the player and event information they need to communicate the event effectively to spectators.

  2. A communications volunteer will be placed at the Stadium Hole tee.  They will provide you with the name and current field position of every player as they tee up on the Stadium Hole.  Communicate that immediately to the MC so they can inform the spectators of who is playing and their position in the event.  Use the Blitz Golf App and/or the big screen to establish where the player is in the field before informing the MC of all the relevant player information.

  3. Monitor the Blitz Golf app to see how the round is playing out.  Inform the MC of any notable events such as who is leading, what hole they are on, who is on the cut line etc.  Use the UHF radio as/if necessary to ask other volunteers roving with groups for further information.

  4. The job is complete when the final round is complete and a winner is decided.

  5. If you are not crystal clear about any aspect of this role, please ask any questions well ahead of the event commencing. The final blitz can involve several visits to the Stadium Hole tee so be prepared to deal with that.

  6. When the event is complete, return your lanyard and UHF radio to the Event Control Point.

IMPORTANT

Remember – Blitz Golf is all about entertainment, so a continuous flow of player information and event status is critical.

The MC’s role is to keep spectators informed of all aspects of the running order of the event.  Blitz Golf needs a continuous flow of player and event status information to keeps spectators informed and engaged. Be prepared to inform the crowd of everything happening on the Stadium Hole, and in the event as a whole.  This includes details of every player playing the Stadium Hole throughout the event – to include name, position in the Blitz, and shot they are playing on the Stadium Hole (tee shot, birdie putt, par, what they need to advance etc.)

The MC will be provided with an MC Communications Assistant at every event.  Their job is to monitor the Blitz Golf App and UHF radio network to provide the MC with a continuous update on player status and movements throughout the event, so the MC can give the spectators up to date feedback on player and event status – who’s in the lead, who’s on the cutline, who needs a birdie etc.

For the Stadium Hole, another communications volunteer stationed at the tee will provide to the MC Comms Asssistant the name of every player as they tee up to play.  The MC will then introduce each player before they play the stadium hole, along with their event status/position.  The MC can then, at their discretion, engage with any player as they approach and play the Stadium Hole. But ensure that the status of each player is updated to the spectators as the hole plays out.

The strategy is to ensure that everyone around the Stadium hole & hospitality areas are fully aware at all times of the status of every player who plays through, and their position in the event. This includes the second and final Blitz.

MC Event Plan

  1. Familiarise yourself with the Blitz Golf hole layout ahead of event start time.

  2. Identify the volunteer appointed at MC Assistant for the day.

  3. If not already aware, become familiar with the Blitz Golf format, the nature of the sudden death playoffs etc, as the process of and actions required to execute these need to be clearly communicated to the spectators.

  4. Attend MC briefing to be held two hours ahead of event time.

  5. Become familiar with the specific event activations for the event. These will be discussed at the MC Briefing.

  6. Introduce yourself to all the players ahead of the event start (putting green etc)

  2. Blitz Golf Mascot activation event

  3. Player introductions with the format and procedure as agreed at the MC briefing

  4. Live Interview with a marquee player/s

  5. Sponsor activation/s as players are heading to their starting tee boxes

During each Round

  1. Liaise with the MC Comms Assistant to report on every group teeing off on the stadium hole (every round)

  2. Using information from the MC Comms Assistant, provide spectators with continuous event information as each Blitz plays out.

  3. Conduct inter-round fan activations as discussed and agreed during the MC briefing

  4. Heighten the excitement as each blitz comes to a conclusion.

  5. Announce any players involved in the sudden death playoff, commentating on each player’s shots and the outcomes.

  6. Announce the field for the next Blitz once the previous round is complete.

Final Round

  1. Set the scene for the final blitz (winner takes all etc etc)

  2. Announce each player as they play (information provided by the MC Comms Assistant).

  3. Continue to provide shot by shot feedback to the spectators as the hole plays out.  Assume that the spectators know nothing -many of them won’t and don’t know anything!

  4. Keep the spectators fully appraised of proceedings if the final round requires subsequent holes and/or a sudden death playoff to decide the winner.

  5. Conduct a live interview with the winner as soon as the result is decided.

Comms Plan

  1. Your location throughout the event is on the TEE of the STADIUM HOLE.

  2. Your job is to provide the MC Assistant with the name and current event status of every player that tees off on the Stadium Hole before they tee off.  The aim is to ensure that the MC announces the name and position of each player playing the stadium hole before they play.

  3. You will be working together with the MC Assistant. The MC Assistant volunteer will be located at the Stadium Hole green, with the MC.  They will receive the information you provide to communicate immediately to the MC so they can inform spectators of who is teeing off and their position in the event.  So, ensure that you radio the player details across BEFORE THEY TEE OFF.

  4. This information will also be used by the Big Screen Operator, to ensure that the right player details are displayed as they play the stadium hole.

  5. Monitor the Blitz Golf app throughout the event to see how each blitz is playing out so you know which group is approaching the stadium hole, and you can be prepared to provide the MC Assistant with all the information they need in good time.

  6. The job is complete when the final round is complete, and a winner is decided.  The final blitz can involve several visits to the Stadium Hole tee so be prepared to deal with that.

  7. If you are not crystal clear about any aspect of this role, please ask any questions well ahead of the event commencing.

  8. When the event is complete, return your lanyard and UHF radio to the Event Control Point.

IMPORTANT

Remember – Blitz Golf is all about entertainment, so prompt, movement of players and accurate, swift scoring in critical.

  1. DOWNLOAD THE BLITZ GOLF APP – preferably before event day, but as a minimum, before the volunteer brief.

  2. Familiarise yourself with the Blitz Golf hole layout for every round you are involved in.

  3. If you are appointed as a hole/group captain, collect your UHF radio (Channel 7) from the Blitz Golf Event Support Point ahead of the event.  Check comms with another volunteer/s as soon as you are set up with your radio.  Report and resolve any UHF radio issues immediately.

  4. Identify your group’s players before the player intro – this can be done on the putting green or as players assemble for the players intro.  As soon as intros are done, ensure that your playing group make their way to their/your designated tee punctually. Remember – pace of play is critical, so ensuring players get to their tees promptly is important.  This is why it is VITAL that you know the hole you are starting on, and the players you are managing.  Players WILL drag their heels, hang around, and expect you to know where to go.

  5. Once all players are present at their starting tee – PLAY AWAY. There is no need to wait for any signal to tee off – there won’t be one.  If there are any problems with players not arriving promptly, report it on UHF CH7.

  6. Walk the blitz with your designated group.  Use UHF CH7 for any ruling requirements or other incidents that need event support.

  7. Before any player tees off, ensure all players have entered all scores for the previous hole. This is the critical component of the Blitz Golf format.  Report any scoring problems (wrong score entered, unable to enter scores etc) on UHF CH7 IMMEDIATELY.

  8. Respond to any request for information from the MC’s assistant as necessary.

  9. Otherwise, please keep UHF comms chatter to essential event information only.

  10. For rounds two and three, monitor the Blitz Golf App for group allocations. As soon as these are finalised, make sure your players head to the correct Blitz Golf hole.

  11. Be aware of club rules for Lightning suspensions.

  12. If you are not crystal clear about any aspect of this role, please ask any questions well ahead of the event commencing.

  13. The job is complete when the final blitz is complete, and a winner is decided.  The final blitz can involve several visits to the Stadium Hole tee so be prepared to deal with that.
