Choat Wins Yarra Valley

CHOAT WINS IN THE WET

Anthony Choat has claimed his first Blitz Golf victory in wet conditions at the Eastern Golf Club in the Yarra Valley.

The star studded field contained multiple tour winners including Lachlan Barker, Austin Bautista and Zach Murray; and represented the strongest field in the series to date.

Although the conditions were wet the players executed incredibly well and with a few interesting short par 3s during Round 1, players took advantage of opportunities to go low with 8 players advancing to Round 2 with under par through the first 6 holes. Tim Hart, Matias Sanchez and Lucas Higgins shared the Round 1 lead and Round 1 bonus.

A 7-way playoff emerged for the final 4 spots in Round 2 with Stacey Peters, DJ Loypur, Matthew Griffin and James Grierson advancing.

The 3-hole Round 2 Blitz saw Anthony Choat emerge as a contender with his -2 advancing to the final ahead of Jay Mackenzie, Matthew Griffin and Tim Hart who survived a tense NTP against Matias Sanchez. Matt Griffin advanced to his second consecutive Blitz final.

The Final featured one of the shots of the day with Griffin inches away from a hole in 1 before Tim Hart and Anthony Choat both made clutch putts to force a replay of the Stadium Hole shootout. Jay Mackenzie’s putt cruelly lipped out to have him eliminated. In the replay Anthony stepped up first and hit a fantastic shot to within a few feet to put the pressure on Griffin and Hart. Tim Hart couldn’t chip in and then Matt Griffin was agonisingly close on his putt. Anthony then held his nerve to take the W.

The series continues at Howlong Golf Resort on Sunday January 14 with another great turnout expected before the series concludes with what is shaping as an epic event in Adelaide on Friday January 19 in front of what will be a massive crowd.
