The Woodman Strikes

CHRIS WOOD WINS IN THE RIVERINA

Chris Wood has enjoyed the perfect introduction to Blitz Golf by claiming the win at Howlong Golf Resort in his maiden appearance.

In front of a strong crowd, Chris Wood needed to hole a lengthy putt in the Final to force an extra hole. His effort was matched by Japan tour player Andrew Evans before Brody Harbinson, who was in the box seat after his fantastic approach shot, soaked up all the pressure over his 5-foot putt. Trent Britton also qualified for the final and had a great debut in Blitz.

In the repeat final hole, Chris secured the victory with another birdie after Andrew and Brody’s efforts missed.

Earlier in the day, Jye Pickin claimed the first-round leader’s bonus after a birdie-birdie finish and led a strong field, which also included Lachlan Barker, Tim Hart, Lincoln Tighe, and last year’s finalist Jack Wilson.

Eventual finalists Andrew Evans and Brody Harbinson survived a first-round NTP tiebreaker. Lachlan Barker played the hole of the day after driving over the back of the par 4 18th before making an absurd up-and-down, much to the delight of the fans.

Andrew Evans was the Round 2 leader with -2 through the 3 holes, while a tiebreaker was required to eliminate Tim Hart and Lachlan Barker, who both could consider themselves unlucky with the sudden change in wind on their approach shots. The series heads to Adelaide for Friday’s finale, which is shaping up to be a massive event with a near sellout.

Bring it on!
